I just finished 13 Reasons Why on Netflix, the heart wrenching story of a young girl who took her life and the reasons that lead her to her fate. It's amazing how many people could relate to this show. Obviously and thankfully not the same outcome, but the outcome of physical, emotional and mental scars. And many people, suffer in silence. I know that many people believe our generation needs to "toughen up" and that bullying has occurred since the beginning of time, but we all must admit that times have changed ad our ability to communicate has been reduced to texting, social media, and an occasional phone call which is not answered the majority of the time. We all have fired off that text, posted that picture, tweeted that tweet that was meant to hurt, and I am sure it did. If this behavior was only happening with teems that would be one thing... but that is not true. Parents, teachers, mentors, people in trusted positions..etc participate in this phenomenon. I have witnessed it first hand and have fell victim to it as well. It was difficult to understand so I turned to writing, that became my outlet. I wrote stories, poetry and when I was 12 my Papa (Rhinestone Cowboy) bought me my first guitar named "Taylor", and my words became lyrics, which became songs. I was always different, I dreamed in music and began my career when I was very young, I knew exactly what I wanted and I knew that even though these words were painful, they would one day help me live my dream. My advice to anyone who is dealing with people attempting to destroy their confidence in any way is write, talk, scream if you have too, but make someone hear you. There is always somebody who will listen to the song in your heart, reach out to them. Do not remain silent.
